How to create a Vision Board that actually works

Before getting into your 2024 vision board, it’s important to have your intentions set.
When you see your vision board, this should be a reminder, something inspiring enough to help keep you on track and focused on reaching your goals. Your board doesn’t have to be for the whole year. You can break it down by season, so a vision board for every three months.
Reflect on past year
Now is a great time to do some internal reflection.
What were your biggest wins? What lessons can be learned from 2023? What are three things you learned about yourself? What could you have done differently? Really contemplate on how your 2023 went for you, so that you can set the pace and the stage for this year to come.
Visualization
Before you start cutting and crafting, it’s helpful to actually visualize how the year 2024 will look for you. Close your eyes, and imagine what will be in store for you. What clothes do you wear? What food do you eat? What healthy habits have you picked up? What unhealthy habits have you dropped? What did/does this upgraded and healthier version of you do in order to be the person you envision? What makes up the healthy routine? Next, tap into your emotions, what does it feel like when you finally reach your health goals? Do you have more energy? Are you more optimistic? Are you filled with joy? The way you feel about yourself is the way you treat yourself.
SMART GOALS:
Now that you’ve reflected and visualized, it’s time to set S.M.A.R.T. GOALS. That stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound.
Specific: what do you want to accomplish?
Measurable: how will you know when it’s accomplished?
Achievable: how can the goal be accomplished?
Relevant: will these actions help you reach your goal? Are they relevant?
Time: when can I accomplish this goal?
Creating these S.M.A.R.T Goals is going to allow you to create a game plan, and follow the appropriate steps it takes to reach success. One important thing is to ask yourself WHY! Why are you setting these goals? What is your motivation? Who are you doing this for? Is this your goal or someone else’s goal?
Next, consider having a word, phrase, or theme for the year, For example, my theme for the year of 2023 was hydration. I wanted to focus on hydrating my body, making sure I was getting enough water for my body to function at its best. To do this, I started juicing. So ponder what your theme can be for this year. What’s most important to you? What’s your main priority for 2024? You can also come up with an affirmation that fits your theme. For example, my affirmation for hydration could be “I allow every cell in my body to be properly hydrated and nourished.”
Lastly, how will you track your progress? Will you take transformation photos? Will you get a habit tracker journal? How often will you check in with yourself to make sure that you are staying on track? This requires self accountability, which is one of the many reasons people struggle to meet their goals. If this is an area of concern, consider talking to a health coach. A health coach can hold you accountable, help you stay on track, and track your progress. Whatever is getting in the way of your success can be adjusted and addressed simply by chatting with a health coach, someone knowledgeable about behavior change, discipline, and self accountability.
